Picky cat refuses everything except one wet food. Normal?

My two-year-old cat eats one wet food flavour only. She turned her nose up at everything else, including treats. The shop is sometimes out of stock and then she barely eats at all. How do I widen her diet without starving her out?

Don't starve her, as cats can get liver problems from not eating. Mix a spoonful of the new food into the old one and slowly increase over two weeks. Warming wet food a few seconds makes it smell stronger. If she still refuses everything, a vet can check her teeth and tummy, since sometimes a picky cat is hiding a small dental problem or discomfort.

Buy two or three flavours of her favourite when you can, and keep a backup. If she stops eating more than a day, go to the vet. I've seen cats stop eating when stressed by travel or heat. Variety also protects you against shortages, and a few small cans of different flavours is cheaper than panic buying whatever is left on the shelf.

Try different textures too, like pate versus chunks in gravy. Sometimes it's the texture, not the flavour. Take it slowly, there's no rush, and stay relaxed, because a calm owner makes a calmer eater. Many cats come round after a few patient weeks.
