Long-haired cat shedding everywhere. Brushing tips? Do I need a groomer?
My Persian sheds all over the condo and hairballs are frequent. I brush occasionally but she hates it. How do you keep a long-haired cat comfortable in the heat, and is a lion cut a good idea? We have AC but she still pants a little in the afternoons, so I'm hoping for tips from other owners of fluffy cats.

Brush a little every day, in short sessions with treats. A wide-tooth comb and a slicker brush work well. Hairballs go down as brushing goes up. A rubber grooming glove is a good start for cats who hate brushes, since it feels like petting, and it picks up lots of loose hair.
HelpfulA lion cut can help in the heat but ask the groomer to be gentle and the vet if your cat gets stressed. Some cats get anxious. If your cat seems stressed, make sure she has plenty of water and a cool spot, and keep her in the AC during the hottest part of the day.
HelpfulKeep the eyes and face clean with a damp cloth, especially for flat-faced breeds. Regular brushing also lets you check for ticks, fleas and lumps. Show your vet anything unusual, because you notice changes first, and early catching saves trouble.
