Should I shave my husky in Thailand's heat?
I'm told that shaving a double-coated dog is bad, yet my husky pants a lot here and sheds clumps everywhere. Groomers offer a shave. What do you do for double-coated breeds in this climate? She's two years old, lives indoors with AC at night, and goes out only in the early morning and after sunset every day.

Most vets advise not shaving, because the coat insulates and protects from sun. Regular deshedding brushing and bathing helps more. Keep the dog in AC during the hottest hours. If he overheats, the key is shade, water and AC. I'd rather keep him indoors in the afternoons than risk sunburn after a shave.
HelpfulAsk the groomer for a de-shedding treatment and a trim of the feathering, not a shave. We brush a few times each week during the shedding season. A good groomer will explain the options, so ask for their opinion, and if they just push a shave for money, look somewhere else.
HelpfulSome people shave and the coat grows back oddly. If your husky has skin issues, ask the vet. Check your vet's opinion at the next visit, especially if he has a thick undercoat that mats under the legs and behind the ears.
