My cat hates nail trimming. How do you do it safely?
My cat bites when I try to trim her claws, and the groomer says she may need sedation. I'd like to learn to do it at home calmly. Any advice, and how often should it be done? She is an indoor cat in a Chatuchak condo, with a very strong character, and our vet is a bit far from us.

Do one paw at a time, after a nap, when she's relaxed. Use small clippers, cut only the clear tip, and reward her. Stop if she gets upset and try later. If she bites or scratches a lot, a vet nurse can do it in a minute, and you can ask them to show you the angle.
HelpfulEvery two to three weeks is typical. Some vets will do nail trims quickly for a small fee. Check for the pink part in the claw, called the quick, and cut well below it, since a cut quick bleeds and hurts.
HelpfulWrap her in a towel for a gentle burrito hold. Touch her paws daily for a few days first. Ask your vet to show you the first time. Keep the sessions short, with a reward after each paw, and some cats prefer being trimmed while they are sleepy in your lap.
