How often is it okay to bathe my dog in the tropics?
My dog gets muddy and smelly quickly in the humidity. I'd like to bath her weekly but a friend says it dries the skin. What is a good routine, and which shampoo type? She is a mixed breed of about 12 kilos, and we live near a canal so the garden is always damp and muddy in the wet months.

Every two to three weeks is okay for most dogs, with a mild dog shampoo. Rinse well, and dry thoroughly, especially skin folds and ears. In the rainy season, I rinse the paws and belly after muddy walks and keep full baths for when there is a real smell.
HelpfulBetween baths, wipe paws and belly with a damp towel. If her skin is itchy or flaky, ask your vet which shampoo is best. Be sure to use lukewarm water, as hot water dries the skin, and dry her well with a towel and a gentle fan afterwards.
HelpfulNever use human shampoo. Get her used to bath time with treats and it will be easier. Most importantly, check the ears and skin folds after bathing for any redness or smell, and mention it to your vet if you see it.
