Heartworm: monthly tablet, chew, or the yearly injection?
My vet in Nonthaburi offers a yearly heartworm injection but I have also seen monthly chewables in pet shops. With mosquitoes everywhere in the rainy season I want to protect my two dogs properly. Does anyone use the injection long term? Do you test before starting? I would like to hear real experience, not just what the shop says.

Our vet insisted on a blood test first, because giving prevention to a dog who is already infected can be risky. After a negative test we did the injection and have repeated it yearly with a recheck. It means no remembering monthly tablets, which is why I chose it.
HelpfulI prefer monthly chews because I can see my dog eat them, and some of them cover intestinal worms and fleas too. It's a bit of a routine but I put a reminder on the first of the month. Whichever you pick, ask your vet to test annually.
HelpfulI got the injection for my older dog and chews for my puppy, since the injection has an age limit. Honestly talk to the vet about your dog's age and weight. They know best. Whatever you choose, make sure it is a vet who explains the dose by weight, and ask when the next test is due, so nothing gets forgotten after a few months.
