What vaccines does a puppy really need in Thailand, and how often?

We are bringing home an eight-week-old puppy next week. The breeder gave one injection and a card, but I have heard different opinions about how many shots are needed and when the rabies vaccine should be given. Condo rules also ask for a vaccination book. What schedule did your vet recommend, and do you do boosters every year?

Keep a photo of every page of the vaccination book on your phone. I lost mine in a house move and it was a pain. Clinics will usually rewrite from their own records, but it takes time. Most clinics here will happily remind you by message when the next shot is due, so ask them to add your number to the list.

Ours followed the standard pattern: a core combo vaccine every three to four weeks until about 16 weeks, then rabies around three months, and boosters yearly. Your vet will set the exact dates from the card. Keep the book stamped, since boarding places and flights ask for it. Don't walk him in public places before the series is done.

Rabies is a must here and the government campaigns do it free for community dogs. For my puppy I also added the leptospirosis shot because of floods in the rainy season. Ask your vet which extras fit your area. Your vet will know which diseases are going around locally, so it is worth asking at the first visit what extras make sense for you.
