Can I take my dog on the ferry to Koh Samui?
I'm planning a trip from Surat Thani to Koh Samui with my medium dog. I have been told some ferries allow dogs on the car deck while others refuse. What was your experience? Any tips to keep a dog calm on the boat and in the heat?

The car ferry was the easiest for us. We stayed with the dog on the deck near the car, with water and shade. Ask the operator beforehand, because rules change. A short lead and a calm dog are a must. Ask about the number of pets they allow per sailing, as the car decks are small, and book your ticket early in busy holiday periods.
HelpfulTake care in the middle of the day. The steel deck gets very hot, so keep paws off it. Check the weather as well, because rough seas make dogs seasick, and the boat deck gets slippery in the rainy season for paws.
HelpfulAvoid the fast boats unless they accept pets. Bring a towel and a bottle of water, and let the dog out for a toilet break before boarding. If your dog is nervous at sea, a quiet corner and a familiar blanket help a lot, and talk calmly to him during the crossing.
