Long drive from Bangkok to Chiang Mai with a dog, what breaks do you take?
We want to drive up with our husky mix, about ten hours. How often do you stop? Is the dog supposed to be in a crate, and how do you handle the heat in the parked car when we eat?

Stop every two to three hours for water and a pee. Never leave the dog in a parked car, even with the windows open, as it gets deadly hot very quickly. Eat in shifts or use a pet-friendly rest stop. Bring a collapsible bowl, plenty of cold water, and a cooling mat for the back seat if you have one. Stop where there is real shade.
HelpfulSkip a big meal before the drive to avoid car sickness, and bring the vaccination book in case of any questions. Ask your vet about travel sickness tablets if he drools or vomits, and keep towels handy. Also keep the car cool with the AC on.
HelpfulWe split it into two days with a night in Phitsanulok or Lampang at a place that allows dogs. A seatbelt harness is safer than a loose dog. Also let him sniff and stretch for a while at each stop, it releases energy, and he is calmer and sleeps better in the car afterwards.
