Adopted soi dog is terrified of men. How do I help?
We adopted a two-year-old female from a street rescue two months ago. She is sweet with me and my mother, but she hides or shakes when my brother or a delivery man comes close. We don't know her history. How long did it take your dog to trust people, and what should visitors do or not do?

Give her control. Visitors should ignore her, sit down, and never reach over her head. Let her choose to come close, and have them drop treats on the floor without looking at her. Our rescue took about five months to relax with men.
HelpfulKeep a safe place, like a crate with a blanket or a corner in the bedroom, where nobody bothers her. For delivery people, I put treats near the door. It built the idea that strangers mean good things. Calm, short, positive sessions every day work better than long ones, and try never to push her beyond what she can handle at that moment.
HelpfulBe patient, don't force it. When my brother visits, he now holds the leash during a walk without talking to her, and she warmed up faster. If the fear gets worse, ask a trainer who uses reward methods. Many rescue dogs have a past we can't know, so trust the process and reward even the smallest brave step she makes towards a visitor.
